New Mexico - Kit Carson's Cave near Gallup

This mammoth cave near Gallup, New Mexico was used by Kit Carson, the famous U.S. Army Scout during the Campaigns against the Navajo Indians.
Deep, within the cave, is a large spring used to this day by the Indians.
Here, many spectacular scenes of the movie "Billy the Kid" were made.
During the U.S. Army Campaigns of 1864 against the Navajo Indians, Kit Carson killed many warriors - taking 7,000 prisoners to Ft. Summer, New Mexico where they were held  for 4 years - they have been "good" Indians ever since.
