We had an amazing high tea in this restaurant after the Globe tour.  After that we walked to the Barbican and saw David Tennant in Richard II.  (My reply was ... You saw David Tennant!  I am so jealous!)

Shakespeare's Globe is the complex housing a reconstruction of the Globe Theatre, an Elizabethan playhouse in the London Borough of Southwark, on the south bank of the River Thames that was originally built in 1599, destroyed by fire in 1613, rebuilt in 1614, and then demolished in 1644.

The modern Globe Theatre reconstruction is considered quite realistic, though contemporary safety requirements mean that it accommodates only 1400 spectators compared to the original theatre’s 3000.

For many people London means Mayfair, Park Lane, Pall Mall, Knights-bridge and Piccadilly Circus.  All these places fall within the boundaries of what is loosely called the 'West End'.  London night-life used to revolve around the statue of Eros in Piccadilly Circus - but the scene has been moving gradually westwards.  Nowadays you're more likely to find the 'jetset' in a Chelsea discotheque - though they may return to Piccadilly to take in the odd continental movie at the old Windmill Theatre.

Piccadilly Circus is a road junction and public space that was built in 1819 to connect Regent Street with Piccadilly. In this context, a circus, from the Latin word meaning "circle", is a round open space at a street junction.

An extract from the poem by an unknown soldier, inspired the artist Paul Cummings MBE and designer Tom Piper MBE to display 888,246 ceramic poppies at the Tower of London.  One for every British and Commonwealth Soldier killed in the Great War.
"We will remember them".

Trooping the Colour is a ceremony performed by regiments of the British and Commonwealth armies.

Since 1748 Trooping the Colour has also marked the official birthday of the British sovereign.

Shown on this postcard are drums and clarinets that are part of the ceremony that features The Massed Bands.

The Regalia is situated in the Wakefield Tower and contains the crown jewels preserved in a glass case protected by a strong iron cage.  Here are some most interesting relics of former English Kings and Queens.  The total value of the Regalia is estimated at three million pounds. (You can be sure that figure is a lot higher now!)

The Crown Jewels have been kept at the Tower of London since 1303 after they were stolen from Westminster Abbey. It is thought that most, if not all, were recovered shortly afterwards. After the coronation of Charles II, they were locked away and shown for a viewing fee paid to a custodian. However, this arrangement ended when someone attempted to steal the Crown Jewels after having bound and gagged the custodian. Thereafter, the Crown Jewels were kept in a part of the Tower known as Jewel House, where armed guards defend them.

Today we went to church in Westminster Abbey! The choir sounded beautiful.  We sang along when we were told to, the music and words were in the church program.  So now we can say we sang with the choir in London's Westminster Abbey.  :D

The International Staff Band (ISB) is the premier brass band of the Salvation Army.

Contents

All bandsmen and women are actively involved in their local Salvation Army Corps, many holding leadership positions. They give their time freely to this additional ministry. The members of the band are drawn from Salvation Army centres as far as Manchester, Bristol, Norwich and Maidstone. While based in the UK, the band has an international reputation and ministry, undertaking regular overseas tours.

The London Eye is a giant Ferris wheel on the South Bank of the River Thames in London.  It is also known as the Millennium Wheel.

The entire structure is 135 metres (443 ft) tall and the wheel has a diameter of 120 metres (394 ft).

The wheel's 32 sealed and air-conditioned passenger capsules are rotated by electric motors. Each of the capsules represents one of the London Boroughs, and holds up to 25 people. The wheel rotates about 0.9 km/h (or 0.6 mph) so that one revolution takes about 30 minutes.

The Traitors' Gate is a double gateway on to the Thames, by which state prisoners were formerly admitted to the Tower; above it is St. Thomas's Tower.  In the view we see the gun-carriage upon which the remains of Queen Victoria were conveyed to the mausoleum at Frogmore.

Houses of Parliament from the river Thames - Fitly situated beside the grand old Abbey is the superb pile of Tudor-Gothic buildings in which Parliament is housed.  On the left the magnificent Victoria Tower rises to a height of over four hundred feet.  The Clock Tower, containing the bell known as Big Ben, is on the right of the view.
