North Carolina - Cherokee, Mountainside Theatre on Indian Reservation

Mountainside Theatre in Autumn, Cherokee Indian Reservation, Cherokee, North Carolina

The Mountainside theatre has been created from a natural amphitheatre in the hills above the Indian village of Cherokee.  In this sylvan setting, in the shadow of the everlasting peaks of the Great Smoky Mountains, will be presented a moving and authentic saga of Cherokee Indians and their mountaineer neighbors.  It is the story of the handful of Cherokees who hid in the Great Smokies rather than move west on The Trail of Tears.  Through their descendents, Indian customs and mountain traditions fast becoming extinct, are being revived and preserved.
1951

the sender writes:

Just saw the play "Unto these Hills" and boy was it good.  I have a visitor from Charleston with me and we both enjoyed the play very much.  It's the best I have ever seen.

North Carolina - High Point, Word's Largest Chest of Drawers, from La Quinta

Greetings From Route LQ (Hotel chain La Quinta)

Your Drawers are Showing

The World's largest Chest of Drawers
We couldn't help but notice that the two socks hanging from the drawers don't match.  Typical.  But unless your shoe size is "10-feet", they probably won't fit, anyway.  Built in the 1920's as a monument to the city's status as "Home Furnishings Capital of the World," this oversized chest is actually the facade of a building - home to the High Point Jaycees.

High Point, North Carolina

Nearest la Quinta: 9 miles

With over 780 Locations, La Quinta Inns & Suites is everywhere you travel.
