Kit Carson House and Museum
Taos, New Mexico
The old house was built in 1826 and occupied by Kit Carson and family in 1858 to 1866. Kit Carson ran away from his Missouri home, joined an ox-train bound for Santa Fe, became a trapper, guide and scout covering all the Western states which were generally unknown. A shrewd and cunning Indian fighter, he served as a scout for the U.S. Army and rose to the rank of Brevet Brigadier General.
