Hekla is a stratovolcano located in the south of Iceland with a height of 1,491 metres (4,892 ft). Hekla is Iceland's most active volcano; over 20 eruptions have occurred in and around the volcano since 874. During the Middle Ages, Icelanders called the volcano the "Gateway to Hell."

the sender writes:

Iceland has one main road around the whole island.  Above you see the road.  Except in the Highlands, it's quite hard to get lost in Iceland.  There are not so many roads at all.  Just 300,000 people live here.  Most of them in the area of the capital, Reykjavík.

Iceland - Sheep Agree About the Weather

Three out of four sheep agree: in Iceland we have weather.

Storhofoi, Heimaey Island,
Vestmannaeyjar (Vestmann Islands),
off the south coast,
Icelandic sheep (Ovis aries)
Icelandic name: kindur

The sender writes:
I could not agree more with the saying on this card.  The weather is like this.  If you don't like the weather in Iceland, just wait 5 minutes!

Vestmannaeyjar -

Small group of islands off the south coast of Iceland. The volcanic island of Surtsey emerged from the ocean in 1963, and in 1973 the volcano Helgafell erupted, causing the population of 5,200 to be temporarily evacuated and adding 2.5 sq km/1 sq mi to the islands' area. The eruption created the volcanic cone of Eldfell. Heimaey, the largest of the islands, is one of Iceland's chief fishing ports.

I like to post interesting things about the postcards, and I searched high and low for the reason for the lighting in this eruption.  Yes, there are a lot of articles, but here is a link to one that explains it in a way a 'non-scientist' can understand.  (In other words, people like me  :)

Iceland - Vik i Myrdal (Southernmost Village in Iceland)

Vik i Myrdal

The village Vik in south Iceland is renowned for its beautiful black sandy beach and the lava formations Reynisdrangar rising from the sea.  An old folktale explains the pillars as being trolls that were caught out at sea at dawn.  The area around Reynisfjall is abundant in bird species during the summer.

The village of Vík is the southernmost village in Iceland, located on the main ring road around the island, around 180 km (110 mi) by road SSE of Reykjavík.

Despite its small size (291 inhabitants as of January 2011) it is the largest settlement for some 70 km (43 mi) around and is an important staging post, thus it is indicated on road signs from a long distance away.
