Barbados - Tropical Beach Paradise
Barbados
Tropical paradise on the West Coast

Barbados is a sovereign island country in the Lesser Antilles. It is 34 kilometres (21 mi) in length and up to 23 kilometres (14 mi) in width, covering an area of 432 square kilometres (167 sq mi).
The origin of the name Barbados is either the Portuguese word Barbados or the Spanish equivalent los Barbados, both meaning "the bearded ones" It is unclear whether "bearded" refers to the long, hanging roots of the bearded fig-tree (Ficus citrifolia), indigenous to the island; or to the allegedly bearded Caribs once inhabiting the island.

The Parliament Buildings is the seat of the Parliament of Barbados. Built between 1870 and 1874, the buildings have been the meeting place for both chambers of Parliament since 16 June 1874, and a former site of Colonial administration of Barbados. It consists of two buildings. (Shown in the postcard is the West Wing).
In 2011 both buildings were designated as UNESCO protected properties within the World Heritage Site of Historic Bridgetown and its Garrison area.

Barbados - A Beautiful Tropical Beach
Barbados
Beautiful tropical beaches are located throughout the island. Relax and enjoy the tranquility and unique island flavor that is Barbados.
Conch Fritters
1 lb. conch, cleaned, pounded and cut into 1/4 inch pieces - 1 egg, beaten - 12 oz. flour sifted - 1/2 oz. baking powder - dash hot sauce - 2 onions, minced - 2 celery stalks, minced - 2 green bell peppers, minced - dash salt - dash freshly ground pepper - vegetable oil, for frying - - Make a stiff batter with egg, flour, baking powder, seasoning and a little water. Mix in additional ingredients and let batter rest for 15 minutes. Deep fry fritters in vegetable oil until golden. Makes 18 fritters. (I wonder if the baking powder should read 1/2 tsp??)

From a set of 12 postcards called:
Cruising the Caribbean (each card also has a recipe on the back)
inside the folder holding the card it reads:
Pristine beaches, tranquil shady palm trees, tropical warm breezes and a laid-back lifestyle make the islands of the Caribbean relaxing, enchanting, enticing, entertaining, and inviting. Thousands of visitors arrive to one or more of the many Caribbean islands each year to find their perfect sun-kissed vacation destination is the one they will never forget.
The Caribbean has it all!!
