The sender writes:
We just arrived at the fountain - took a few photos, then realized there was a crazy man inside the fountain who cut his stomach in two places.  He's in our pictures!  The police came and moved everyone away.  We had to leave so I don't know what happened to him.

Italy - Rome, Villa Borghese - Little Lake

Roma  (Rome)
Villa Borghese - Little lake
1955

Villa Borghese is a large landscape garden in the naturalistic English manner in Rome, containing a number of buildings, museums and attractions. It is the second largest public park in Rome (80 hectares or 148 acres) after that of the Villa Doria Pamphili.

The gardens were developed for the Villa Borghese Pinciana and built by the architect Flaminio Ponzio, who used it as a party villa, at the edge of Rome, and to house his art collection. The gardens as they are now were remade in the early nineteenth century.

the sender writes:
We are now on the plane flying from Rome to Cairo, Egypt.  Wish you were here with me.  Rome is full of images.  Saw prison Paul was kept where he wrote some of his epistles.  Also place of burial.  Visited Vatican - St. Peters -- saw and heard Pope give blessing.  Saw sacred step they claim was brought to Rome from Jerusalem that Jesus waled on for trial before Pilot.  Steps were filled with people on knees climbing up to top and kissing each step.

The Colosseum, or the Coliseum, originally the Amphitheatrum Flavium, is an elliptical amphitheatre in the centre of the city of Rome, Italy, the largest ever built in the Roman Empire, built of concrete and stone.  It is considered one of the greatest works of Roman architecture and Roman engineering.
