Then - 1927
Mount Rushmore National Memorial as shown before and after construction. The first drilling began in August, 1927 on this massive mountain of granite by its sculptor, Gutzon Borglum. After 14 years of financial problems and a national depression, the monument was completed costing nearly one million dollars.
