Washington, DC
National Cherry Blossom Festival
Each year Washington, D.C. celebrates the gift of ornamental cherry trees from Tokyo, Japan. In a ceremony on March 27, 1912, First Lady Helen Herron Taft and Viscountess Chinda, wife of the Japanese Ambassador planted a pair of trees, the first of thousands which were shipped to the city.
The sender writes:
Though this year's blooms were a little "whimpy" compared to the average year, they were still beautiful and even magical! Spring certainly is gorgeous here in our nation's capital!
