Caernarfon is the County town of Gwyedd, which lost to Cardiff its bid to become the Welsh capital back in 1957. Yet it still maintains a certain status, and is fast becoming the main media centre for Wales. It is, of course, also one of Wales' major tourist honeypots, the main draw being its 13th century castle and town walls. In 1969 Prince Charles was invested here as Prince of Wales.
