New Orleans
Established in 1721, New Orleans' most famous National Historic Landmark, Jackson Square was originally called the Place d'Armes, as it was a military gathering ground. The square was renamed to honor Andrew Jackson, the hero of the Battle of New Orleans. Jason Square is flanked by St. Louis Cathedral, The Presbytere and Cabildo State Museums and the Pontalba Apartments, the oldest in the nation.
