India - Konark Sun Temple

Sun Temple, Konark
India

Konark Sun Temple, also known as the Black Pagoda is a 13th century temple on the shores of Bay of Bengal at Konark in the State of Odisha. Dedicated to the Sun God, the temple has been built in the shape of a gigantic chariot with elaborately carved stone wheels, pillars and walls. The higher layer (above the basement and middle layers) of the temple contains a number of bigger sculptures.  A major part of the structure is now in ruins.

The temple is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
