Black Hills of South Dakota
This huge carving is located 2 miles from Keystone, South Dakota, about a 30-minute drive from Rapid City. Gutzon Borglum started this massive project in 1927 and worked on it until his death in 1941. His son Lincoln finished the task. The formal dedication ceremony occurred in 1991 with President Bush doing the honors. This was also the 50th anniversary of the Monument.
