New Mexico - Bats Flying Around Carlsbad Caverns

Bat Flight from the natural Entrance Carlsbad Caverns National Park
New Mexico

During the Spring, Summer and until the arrival of cold weather in the Fall - each evening at sundown up to 3 million bats emerge from the Natural Entrance and forage over the countryside for insects - returning at dawn - truly a spectacular experience for visitors.  Most of the bats are of the harmless Mexican Free Tail species.
