Sculptures in Wichita, Kansas

Wichita
The Douglas Avenue Sculpture Series adorns the sidewalks of downtown Wichita, Kansas, adding a touch of humor, conversation, and special interest to driving through downtown Wichita.  Wichita is also known as the "Air Capitol of the World" because of its aircraft factories.

Placed in the late 1990's, there are 31 whimsical bronze sculptures by Washington artist Georgia Gerber on Douglas Avenue.

The largest sculpture is a recreation of a dimestore counter, placed in Lewis Reflection Square Park, which was once the site of a F. W. Woolworth store. Now some people sit at the counter and eat their lunches.
