Abraham Lincoln and his wife, Mary Todd Lincoln, purchased this Springfield, Illinois house in 1844. The one-and-a-half-story cottage was eventually expanded into a twelve-room, two-story home. It was the first and only home the Lincoln's ever owned and where they resided for seventeen years (1844-1861.
