Built in 1808 at a cost of 40,000.00, the Nicholas Ware home, known then as "Ware's Folly", has become famous for its unique type of architecture. It has recently been reclaimed by Mrs. Gertrude Herbert and now houses the Gertrude Herbert Institute of Art.
