The Mount Rushmore National Memorial, where the busts of four great American leaders - George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln - are sculptured in heroic proportions, is the largest monument ever carved. The late Gutzon Borglum exacted the carvings in a granite mountain 6,000 feet high. The busts are 450 feet high. The shrine is rightful called the "Shrine of Democracy."
